Second in a series of Educational Safety Sessions
BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 14, 2017) -- Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) announced today that Motorsports Safety Group would be hosting the second in a series of scheduled Safety Seminars Friday, June 16 at Michigan International Speedway.
Dr. Jason Cormier, one of the country’s leading neurosurgeons, will present a 30-minute session at the Brooklyn, Michigan two-mile oval, prior to the days on-track activities, including the nationally televised Corrigan Oil 200. The seminar, scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Michigan Room, will include material specifically related to back injury and preventative measures for race drivers and crew members. Attendance for all entered drivers is required, and the seminar is open to all ARCA licensed participants. ARCA Racing Series crew chiefs and car owners are encouraged to attend.
Recent injuries to drivers in the sport have inspired Dr. Cormier to host the Safety Seminar at MIS and discuss vertebral issues. ARCA driver Justin Fontaine suffered a compression fracture to his L-1 vertebrae at Daytona, but has since returned to competition with full medical clearance.
Dr. Cormier formed the Motorsports Safety Group during the off-season to create a means by which to promote health, wellness and preventative practices within the sport of auto racing. Dr. Cormier crafted this strategic partnership with the ARCA Safety Initiative Program to form a “Motorsports Healthcare Education Plan,” a high profile, interactive activation designed to reach millions of race fans throughout the country. The Motorsports Safety Group’s support of the ARCA Safety Initiative was announced at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in December.
Additional Safety Seminars are tentatively being scheduled in conjunction with upcoming ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards events.
